King of the Mountain Chapter Five: The Fallout.
Shawn has to face the music and the consequences of his actions.
I slowly woke up and got up. I had to face the music sometime; I might as well do it now. I drove to the lodge and didn’t see anyone.
‘Maybe they left,’ I thought.
I had put them in their place really hard, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they upped and left.
But a movement in the downstairs room caught my eye. I smiled as I peeked inside.
“Knew it,” I said. I also saw an unfamiliar car parked at the side of the lodge.
Instead of going inside, I drove back to town. A short drive around the place told me everything I needed to know. I didn’t even have to get out of the vehicle.
I stopped at the large grocery store, picked up a few things, made a few phone calls to set things up, and then headed back to the lodge. I slowly opened the door and crept upstairs.
“Hey Staci!” I said as I came down after a shower and a shave.
“Shawn!” Staci shouted as she was surprised to see me. “I have to go,” she quickly said as she got up from the table and dashed towards the door.
