True Calling Chapter One: Mistakes Were Made.
A night out to the club with friends turns into a large breakup.
“Well, this is exciting,” I said as I sat at the bar with my friend Terrence.
“Wait, it usually picks up around nine,” Terrence replied.
His girlfriend Lauren, who worked at the bar, rolled her eyes at me. To say she didn’t like me was an understatement, but the feeling was mutual.
“It’s ten,” I said, looking at my watch.
“Fine, go,” Terrence said as he looked at me. “Go home to your empty house and your sad existence, or you can stay here and see what happens.”
He was right for a change. My girlfriend of four years up and left three weeks ago. No note, no text, no phone call, just gone. She took all her things with her.
Everyone thought it was because I was a workaholic, but I always made time for her. We went on extravagant vacations and talked about getting married, and then she was gone a month later.
I tried to call her, but she had disconnected her phone. The only thing her friends would say to me was that she was alive and well. That’s it, not where she moved to or why she did it, just that she was alive and well.
