She came by at the right place and at the perfect time.
I was ready. This time, I was going to do it. I looked at the river below me, the water rushing under the bridge. I was going to end it all.
For the past year, my life has been going downhill. First, my marriage of eleven years fell apart after my wife decided she was no longer interested in me.
I thought I had done something wrong or that, like some marriages, it had run its course, but I was wrong. Lillian was no longer interested in men, period.
I found that out after she started dating my best friend’s wife.
We helped each other through our divorces, but then he contracted cancer and poof, he was gone. It took his life in under three months. They always say those words ‘if we caught it earlier,’ but those were hollow words.
I bounced back from that, only to have my other best friend pass away.
I had to put my dog Rufus down. I knew he was getting up there in years, and I did everything to keep him going, but I was causing him more suffering only to keep myself happy, so finally, I had to say goodbye.
