Things Could Be Worse: Chapter Six
Events and people mentioned in the next chapters are in my other story. KING OF THE MOUNTAIN. While it’s not necessary to read it, things would be a lot clearer.
“So, they like you,” Stephanie reassured me.
I had hoped that was the cause of their visit, but I wasn’t sure. “And the Lisa thing?” I asked.
“Why not?” Stephanie asked. “She has been in that area longer than anyone else there, so she should be in line for a seat. Are you scared?”
“Yes,” I replied.
“Shouldn’t be, think of her as a regional manager that will only be visiting once in a while,” Stephanie said. “Yes, you will be directly answering to her, but remember she answers to us.”
That put my mind at ease. “One more thing,” Stephanie said as she stared at me on our video call. “Do not take what Heather said lightly, she meant it.”
“I figured,” I nodded. “Something tells me she doesn’t share all of your sentiments.”
“She doesn’t,” Stephanie replied sharply. “She still sees you as the person that slept with married men, and ruined marriages.”
I nodded. “I see,” I said. “Not my proudest moment.”
“She wants to see if you can genuinely settle down,” Stephanie said.
