Things Could Be Worse: Chapter Three
One night turned into a week, and then a week turned into a month. Now three months later, I was still living in Derek’s house. Each day I apologized, and each day he said everything was okay.
Even after all this time, I still didn’t know what he did for work. I never saw him sitting at his computer for full lengths of time or was he on his phone constantly. He spent most of the days either in his home gym or out on the lake on his boat.
The main reason for staying was that I wasn’t getting enough hours at either place to move out comfortably. Especially having two large dogs.
Most of the rental places wanted massive deposits, had a dog fee or didn’t allow large dogs.
I knew they couldn’t care if we stayed here. They loved the large open area outside. I hardly walked them anymore. I just opened the door, and off they went. Usually, they went with Derek out on the lake, they saw him going to his boat, and they ran and jumped onto it.
Jason had already moved on. He was with Kylie now, one of Kelly’s other recruits. She had already moved in and everything. The advantage of a small town like ours was that there was no shortage of desperate people.
I had a few guys already willing to take Jason’s place and offering me the world if I went with them.
