“Vincent, can you come into my office?” Gina asked over the intercom.

“On my way,” I replied.

“Sit down,” Gina said as I entered her office.

She waited until I sat down then she looked over at me. “I am sure you have heard the news,” Gina said as she leaned back in her chair.

“Yeah,” I nodded.

It was no secret that Harold, my direct manager, had put in his two-week notice yesterday. I was hoping I would get the promotion, but the gossip around the store was that Terrence would get it.

“I want to be the first to tell you, that we would like you to get his position,” Gina said with a smile. “If you want it, that is?”

“Of course!” I said with a massive smile on my face.

“Good,” Gina said as she stood up. “Welcome to the management team of store 311,” Gina said as she stood up.

We shook hands. “Does this mean I don’t have to wear the blue shirt anymore?” I asked.

“Ask Lauren and she should be able to provide you with some black ones,” Gina said as she sat back down.

After the initial shock of my new promotion, which included more hours and a lot more responsibility, things started to mesh reasonably quickly.
